Zalău is the seat of Sălaj County, Romania. It comprises of the city of Zalău and the village of Stâva.
In Zalău, Roma are located in different areas: Stoguri, Parului, Spicului, Deleni, Mihai Eminescu, Livada SCPP and Garofitei. A total of approximately 2 500 Roma live in Zalău.
The problems the community is facing are similar to the problems met within Roma communities throughout the country: informal housing situation, poor secondary roads network quality, lack of access to water, gas or electricity, high dropout rate and absenteeism rate.
The most acute problem in the Roma community in Zalău is the lack of identity and property documents which, together impede even more the access of the Roma people to basic services.
ROMACT Process started in May 2023 with the signature of the Letter of Agreement.
