Moreni  is a municipality in Dâmbovița County in eastern Romania. 

According to municipality estimates, there are actually about 2 000 Roma living in Moreni, in 3 different communities. 

Main issues Roma are faced with are complex and related to poor housing conditions, low level of education and lack of work opportunities. 

The ROMACT Process

 
ROMACT Process started in February 2021 with the signature of the Letter of Agreement.

The Taskforce for Roma inclusion was created following Local Council's approval in November 2021. 

The Joint Action Plan for Roma Inclusion was adopted by the Local Council in June 2022.

The Municipality benefited of ROMACT expertise for the following projects :
The expertise provided by ROMACT for municipalities involves training and guidance on preparing project proposals and implementing inclusive policies aimed at improving the living conditions and social integration of vulnerable populations, including the Roma.

* DEMNI (In partnership with Marasesti municipality), fair Development, Non-Discriminatory and Inclusive Measures - Funded by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and Norwegian Grants 2014-2021, Increasing Roma Inclusion.

ROMACT Small Grants Scheme :
ROMACT offers small grants scheme to support the efforts of the municipalities and Community Action Groups to respond together to the needs of the most vulnerable and to multiply the good practices across ROMACT municipalities.
 
Under the scheme of small grants, the following project was supported by ROMACT between October 2021 - January 2022:

Rehabilitation of common spaces – Municipality of Moreni
ROMACT supported the municipality with 4993 € for the rehabilitation of Pascov Roma community buildings. The common space of the two buildings was in precarious condition with broken windows, leaky ceilings, and cracked walls. The project improved both the conditions of the building and the living conditions of the residents. Some volunteers of the Roma community also participated in the restoration works which increased the sense of cooperation in the community.
