Dărmănești is located in Eastern Romania, in Bacău County. The town administers five villages: Dărmăneasca, Lapoș, Păgubeni, Plopu and Sălătruc.

The unofficial number of Roma living in Darmanesti is about 1 500. 

Most Roma live in Brătuleşti district where they are faced with issues related to precarious and illegal housing, lack of access to services and migration abroad. 

The ROMACT Process

ROMACT started in March 2020 with the signature of the Letter of agreement.

The Taskforce for Roma inclusion exists but was not yet formally approved by the Mayor. 

The Joint Action Plan for Roma Inclusion was adopted by the Local Council in January 2022​

The Municipality benefited of ROMACT expertise for the following projects :
The expertise provided by ROMACT for municipalities involves training and guidance on preparing project proposals and implementing inclusive policies aimed at improving the living conditions and social integration of vulnerable populations, including the Roma.

* Prevention and protective measures against COVID-19 (Campaign, hygiene and medical supplies and equipment) - Funded by the CEI extraordinary call for proposals 2020.

* Education and E-learning methods - Creating online resources for schools -  Funded by the CEI extraordinary call for proposals 2020.

Inclusion through art and culture, Enhancing Roma Inclusion and Empowerment - Funded  by the Small grants scheme, FRDS.

* "Come to school !", increasing the number of students attending - Funded by the National School Abandonment Reduction Program.

ROMACT Small Grants Scheme :

ROMACT offers small grants scheme to support the efforts of the municipalities and Community Action Groups to respond together to the needs of the most vulnerable and to multiply the good practices across ROMACT municipalities.
Under the scheme of small grants, the following project was supported by ROMACT between April - September 2020:

Combating any virus together with determination​ - Darmanesti Municipality

ROMACT supported the municipality with 4987 € and reached 430 families during the first peak of pandemic with the project of “Combating any virus together with determination”. The project covered information campaign on COVID19 and provided masks, disinfectant products, informative flyers for the vulnerable families in the community. Telephone consultancy and specialized assistance were also offered to people who are at high risk of health due to COVID19.
