Description of the Municipality: 

Lugoj is located in the southwestern part of Romania, about 60 km east of Timisoara.

According to 2011 census, Roma community represents 2.3% of the population of Lugoj. The Roma community is mainly settled in Maguri village. This part of Lugoj does not have sewerage system.

The Roma community is also faced with issues related to access to health and education.

The ROMACT Process

ROMACT process started in August 2016 in Lugoj.
ROMACT team supported the local authorities in drafting the Joint Action Plan in cooperation with the Community Action Group.The Joint Action Plan was adopted by the Local Council on 26 January 2017 and was included in the Local Development Strategy.

In the framework of ROMACT, municipality staff members were trained on the development of strategic action plans and writing project proposals for EU funding.

The municipality also received support to submit several project proposals:
 - "PRESENT - the future is from the school ", ESF, OPHC- Priority Axis 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.6,  Education which was approved with a 595 802€ budget
 - Local Development Strategy, ESF, OPCH- Priority Axis 5.1 which was approved with a 7 000 000€ budget.

Thanks to both funding, the implementation of the Joint Action Plan is currently ongoing.
