A series of Community Action Group (CAG) trainings has started in North Western Romanian ROMACT municipalities. Community empowerment and mobilisation are the main focus of these workshops which started in Tarnaveni on 7th March. On the 25th September 2012, the Mayor of Maglizh took decisive action to demolish 34 illegal shanty houses.  The Mayor’s justification for the demolition of the homes was that they were built without any regard for municipal regulations and, therefore, put the lives and health of the residents at risk.  The demolition seemingly failed to recognise that the building were the only homes of nearly 200 Roma, half of that number were children.   Only a few months later the Mayor...

Since our last update on 8 November, new developments took place in Alesd for Simona’s house. The foundation of the house is now complete, and a local priest will provide all the bricks needed for the construction. Thanks to the mobilization, a construction company also offered to do the insulation of the building, the walls plastering and to set up all the electrical system.
