Litvínov town is at the foothills of Krušné Hory in the north-western area of the Bohemian region, approximately 110 km from Prague. The Litvínov municipality also has three smaller towns: Chudeřín, Hamr and Janov.
The majority of the Litvínov Roma rent privately owned flats. Roma in the area are struggling with high rates of unemployment, housing issues and a poor access to education and health services. Housing represents one of the most pressing issues faced by Roma communities in the municipality, issues such as high density living conditions and the on-going need to meet rent and utility bills, are two of the greatest challenges and both are linked to the high unemployment rates in the community. Litvínov, like other cities in the Czech Republic, has been targeted by anti-Roma marchers which is most likely due to the fact that the city has a high Roma population.
With the Mayor’s signature on the letter of commitment Litvínov began the ROMACT process in December 2015. The Community Action Group (CAG) was created and quickly began to identify the working priorities, which are:
- Public spaces
- Security
- Children activities
