Capacity building through community initiatives and good practices
ROMACT small grants are designed to encourage community initiatives.
Through the programme it has taken many shapes (building playgrounds, educational workshops, cleanups, waste management equipment, …), but always with the same objective of supporting community initiatives for capacity building purposes. The point is not to learn how to build a playground but to learn how to work on a project together (local authority, CAG, public, ...), how to plan together and how to respond to the needs of the community, then, see the value of it, and perpetuate ownership and responsibility while ensuring sustainability.

Mezdra, Bulgaria : "Smile Workshop" project in "Slanchitse" kindergarten. 
Several topics were covered in the field of "Construction and technologies". 
Objective: To independently experiment and learn about design and modeling, material handling, joining, engineering. 
Objective : Stimulating discovery thinking and creating conditions for developing research skills in children. 
Teachers were first trained than Lego sets were acquired with the help of the small grant. 
Berkovitsa, Bulgaria : "To improve the environment in line with normal life in the community and minimize the risk to human health". 
The community gathered for a large spring cleaning of the river and its surrounding. Berkovitsa, Bulgaria 
Now that everything has been cleaned the objective is to prevent the pollution from ever coming back. 
Thanks to the minigrant the neigborhood has now all the equipment necessary to set up a garbage disposal service with the help of the municipality. 
Provadia, Bulgaria : "Reconstruction and improvement of the infrastructure" 
Municipality and CAG members identified the problems together. 
Objectives : Patching the holes and deformations in the asphalt, restoration of the fence network of the cemetery, installation of a polyethylene water tank and a garbage container, installation of 30 LED street light fixture. 
Kameno, Bulgaria : "Improve the quality of life through the active participation of the local population and the CAG" 
The villagers cleaned and leveled the terrain, the collected waste and the unnecessary land masses was transported by the municipality to a landfill. 
Objective : Ensuring a safe space to play by integrating recreation and outdoor play areas into a common recreational system. 
One of the main needs of the identified by the community was the lack of a safe place for games and recreation for children in the village. Mission accomplished ! 
Ștefănești, Romania : "We learn and play safely" 
The children helped clean the area before the municipality staff installed the new playground. 
Objective : Provide a modern and safe playground, where kids can play during the breaks between classes while raising awareness on the importance of attending school. 
This will benefit several classes years after years.
