Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination of the PACE encourages municipalities to use ROMACT approach

On 9 September 2016, the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) published a report on the promotion of the inclusion of Roma and Travellers, with a focus on access to education and employment. In line with ROMACT approach, the report underlines that “it is time to move beyond stereotypes and to recognise Roma and Travellers as actors in their own future”.

Mr Tobias Zech, the rapporteur, also considers that the local level, especially the mayor, are the lynchpin for an integrated approach and social inclusion and quotes ROMACT as a programme of particular interest in that regard.
The draft text of the report of the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination will be put to the vote of the PACE at one of its forthcoming meetings.
