ROMACT TCC- Transnational Working Visit- ISB e.V.(Dortmund) to Plovdiv

From 13 to 17 March, in the frame of ROMACT Transnational Cooperation Component and Capacity Building (TCC) Programme, a team of 5 representatives of ISB.e.V. – Interessengemeinschaft sozialgewerblicher Beschäftigungsinitiativen from Dortmund, Germany visited Sofia and Plovdiv in Bulgaria for a working visit.  The German delegation first joined the representatives of the National Council for Cooperation on Ethnic and Integration Issues in Sofia to discuss the general framework of Roma policies implementation in Bulgaria. On the 25th September 2012, the Mayor of Maglizh took decisive action to demolish 34 illegal shanty houses.  The Mayor’s justification for the demolition of the homes was that they were built without any regard for municipal regulations and, therefore, put the lives and health of the residents at risk.  The demolition seemingly failed to recognise that the building were the only homes of nearly 200 Roma, half of that number were children.
 

Tundja - Final Meeting and Successful ROMACT Programme Conclusion

Mr. Stancho Stavrev, Deputy Mayor of Tundja, summarised the experiences gained and the positive results of the program. Among these : a real improvement of the communication and collaboration between Roma community and local authorities; the inclusion of the community in the process of consultation and decision-making ; an increased capacity and concern of the municipal officials to develop integration policies for the Roma community ; a bigger interest of the representatives of disadvantaged communities on topics related to intercultural communication, advocacy, marginalization, creation and development of NGOs.

Call for tenders for ROMACT National Facilitators in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy and Slovak Republic - Deadline - 10 February 2017

Within the framework of the Joint European Commission and Council of Europe ROMACT Project, the Council of Europe is organising a call for tenders for National Facilitators in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy and Slovak Republic.
The Facilitator will undertake a facilitating function in relation to the implementation of the project activities at municipal level in his/her respective country. In particular, he/she will act as a conduit between Roma communities on one hand, and the Municipal authorities on the other hand, and will work to ensure effective implementation of activities in one or more municipalities, as applicable.

In the framework of the Joint European Commission and Council of Europe ROMACT Project, the Council of Europe is organising a call for tenders for National Facilitators’ Coordinators in Bulgaria (2), Czech Republic (1), Hungary (1), Italy (1) and Romania (2).
The National Facilitators’ Coordinator will undertake an organizational and coordination function in relation to the implementation of the ROMACT project activities at local level and will act as a conduit between facilitators on one hand, and the National Project Officer on the other hand, and will work to ensure effective implementation of activities in number of municipalities by facilitators.

Call for tenders for ROMACT National Project Officers in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Romania and the Slovak Republic- Deadline- 08 January 2017

In the framework of the Joint European Commission and Council of Europe ROMACT Project, the Council of Europe is organising a call for tenders for National Project Officers in Bulgaria (1), Czech Republic (1), Hungary(1), Italy (1), Romania (2) and the Slovak Republic (1).
The National Project Officer will undertake a coordination function in relation to the implementation of the ROMACT project and will act as a conduit between national, regional and local authorities on one hand, and the National Focal Point, Facilitators and Roma communities on the other hand, and will work to ensure effective cooperation between these different stakeholders.

First lessons and pathways to the future: the first ROMACT TCC networking meeting in Munich

Launched in 2016, ROMACT T.C.C. (ROMACT Transnational Cooperation Component) is a new component of the ROMACT Programme that focuses on the cooperation between municipalities from or to which movements of marginalised populations occur, with a focus on Roma.

In the premises of the Council of Europe (CoE) office in Brussels, Valeriu Nicolae, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the CoE (SRSG) for Roma issues talked about ROMACT and ROMED as successful long-term programmes that bring about concrete results at local level: “We have more and more local administrations that want to work with us and develop plans for social inclusion of Roma, which is very much in line with the Framework Strategies for Roma inclusion.”

Initiating the ROMACT Process: Borovan, Bulgaria

In August 2016, Ms Desislava Todorova, Mayor of Borovan signed the Agreement letter for the implementation of ROMACT Programme in the municipality.  This initial commitment is the first out of four steps of implementation of the ROMACT process that is meant to help municipalities improve the living conditions of disadvantaged communities including Roma.
