Launching event and first workshop of ROMACT and ROMED2 in Kosice, Slovakia

On 5 November, the ROMACT project, as well as the new phase of ROMED2, was officially launched in Slovakia, during a conference held in the City of Kosice. This event has been opened by Andreas Kiefer, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Koos Richelle, Director General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission and Peter Pollák, Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Government for Roma Communities.

On the occasion of event the Slovakian authorities also presented the three years' action plan for the implementation of the Dosta! Campaign.

Kosice, European capital of culture along with Marseille in 2013, is home to many Roma, approximately 8000 of which living in the infamous neighborhood of Lunik IX. The launching of the two programmes aims at improving the situation of Roma not only in Kosice, but also in Cicava, Jarovnice, Ziar Nad Hronom, Michalovce and Chminianske Jakubovany. The launching event was followed by the first National Workshop of ROMACT and ROMED2 in Slovakia, attended by mayors, civil servants from various municipalities as well as the delegation of the Office of the Plenipotentiary.
